Updated Del Rio City Council Approves Increased Residential Homestead Exemptions
Please note, this is an update to the press release dated October 17, 2023, and includes information for the latest 2024 property tax year.
The Del Rio City Council has approved Ordinance 0:2024-024, which increases the property tax exemption for residents aged 65 and older from $7,000 to $10,000. The ordinance also adopts a residential homestead exemption of 4% of the appraised value of a residence homestead.
Residents will not receive a physical check from the city. Instead, the exemption will be applied as a credit to the appraised value of their homestead for the 2024 tax year. The Val Verde County Appraisal District is responsible for appraising property values, while the Val Verde County Tax Office prepares tax statements and collects property taxes on behalf of the City of Del Rio.
This update follows the 2023 tax year, during which qualified homeowners received a tax savings check.
