TRAFFIC VIOLATION LEADS TO SMUGGLING ARREST

On 06/02/2024 at approximately 10:00p.m. a Del Rio Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop for a speeding violation. The violator’s vehicle came to a stop near the intersection of Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd and E. Garza Street.


As the vehicle stopped, the front passenger fled from the vehicle on foot, running eastbound on Garza St. The officer pursued the passenger and was able to take him into custody. The subject was identified as Lauro Flores Baltazar; 37 yrs. of age.


The officer noticed two additional males exited the vehicle and fled, running southbound through the alleyway. A secondary officer arrived on scene a was able to detain one of the fleeing subjects, identified as Salvador Morales Isidro; 35 yrs. of age. Officers learned both fleeing subjects were undocumented Mexican Nationals.


After securing both males, the officer returned to the vehicle and made contact with the driver. The driver was identified as Daniel Calderon; 20 yrs. of age resident of Conroe, Texas. Calderon was arrested for the offense of Smuggling of Persons (2 counts). Baltazar and Isidro were both arrested for Evading Arrest / Detention.
