STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED; SUSPECT ARRESTED

On April 3rd, 2025, at approximately 11:57 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1300 block of East Gibbs regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim reported his 2002 Chevrolet truck had been stolen from the location while he was inside the store.

Police reviewed surveillance cameras and were able to identify the suspect as Anthony Zapata Barboza; 25 yrs. of age due to previous police encounters. Police searched the areas commonly visited by the suspect to no avail.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. an officer located the stolen truck abandoned near the area of Ash Street and Stanley Steet.  The truck was processed and returned to the rightful owner. 

On April 8th, 2025, police obtained an arrest warrant against Barboza for the offense of Theft of Property > $2,500.00 < $30, 000.00. The arrest warrant was executed the same day at the Val Verde County Jail where Barboza was in custody for an unrelated charge. Police interviewed Barboza who admitted to committing the offense.
