'Spring on Main' a Big Success with High Community Attendance

This past Saturday, March 23, 2024, Del Rio was filled with things to do. Multiple events happening throughout the community; events such as BFCU's 11th Annual Golf Tournament for scholarships all the way to downtown with Del Rio's annual Chinese New Year celebration. Another downtown event at The Kress building was The Pop Up DRTX's Spring on Main—a market filled with 30+ vendors from all over Del Rio!

Jocelyn Gonzalez, the proud business owner of Koko Avenue, sells polymer clay earrings that are 'light on the ears'. The business started only 3 years ago. "During COVID it was kinda slowing down, so I thought of an idea, like 'hey, I need to come out more..' you know, and everybody wanted to come out after COVID!" she states. Gonzalez then began reaching out to multiple vendors in similar situations, that were relying on the income coming from their pop-up stands. "I wanted to build this as a way to bring back events to the community and also help the business owners that rely on this for their income" Jocelyn continues.

Bakery goods, jewelry, handmade items, local artists, plants, and even full-on services all within one building, downtown. "The hardest part when I first started was; learning how to manage 35 vendors. I manage my own business by myself, but then I also have 35 other vendors that rely on me to make this a great event. A lot of the planning that people don't know about is marketing and advertising. A year from now we definitely do see more traffic in our pop-ups."

With an exciting and hopeful future one thing is for sure; local pop-up vendors are loved by our community based on the attendance and positive 'vibes' we experienced at the event. There is also someone always looking out for others when you least expect it. Jocelyn has one message for the community and it is; "I really appreciate everybody that comes every month. I'm speaking for the rest of the vendors we cannot do this without you. We are very thankful that you look forward to our events and still show up every month, thank you so much for your endless support."
