Shane's Whiskey and Bourbon House Marks Its Anniversary

Shane’s Whiskey and Bourbon House, a prominent spot in Del Rio's social scene, celebrated its anniversary. Known for its extensive selection of nearly 300 bottles of whiskey, bourbon, and other fine spirits, the establishment has become a favorite for locals and visitors.

Shane Souba, the founder and owner, brought a fresh vision to Del Rio, a city traditionally known for its tequila bars. Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Shane decided to plant roots in Del Rio after a memorable visit for a quinceañera. "I thought this would be a nice place if I ever got rid of my other businesses in Illinois," Souba recalled. Seeking warmer climates and new opportunities, Souba and his wife moved to Del Rio, bringing with them a dream of creating a unique bar experience.

"And the vision was just a small little corner bar, not a lot of action, just good whiskey and bourbon. Bring it down to Del Rio because Del Rio is mostly a tequila bar area and we kind of pushed it and we wanted to do something different," Souba explained. What started as a new venture quickly grew as the community embraced the new establishment. Shane’s Whiskey and Bourbon House became not just a bar but a vibrant community hub.

A recent new key highlight of Shane’s Whiskey and Bourbon House was the weekly block parties held every Friday and Saturday. These events, inspired by a desire to bring the community together, had become a staple in Del Rio. Luke Gilliam, the manager, described the block parties as an effort to create a bigger event that allowed everyone to enjoy a night out. "We wanted to do something that brought people together, not just adults but families too," Gilliam shared.

The bar's influence extends beyond just serving drinks. It has become a networking hub for professionals and a supporter of local events and initiatives. "I liked to think of our bar as a melting pot for professionals to network," Gilliam said. The establishment's efforts to create a sense of community and support local growth did not go unnoticed. Shane's Whiskey and Bourbon House was honored with a plaque recognizing it as the best bar in Del Rio from a group at Laughlin Air Force Base.

As Shane’s Whiskey and Bourbon House celebrated its anniversary, the future looked bright. Plans for expansion are underway, including new properties to accommodate live music and other events. The goal was to create an environment reminiscent of Austin's Sixth Street or San Antonio's Riverwalk, right here in Del Rio. "As long as Del Rio supports us, we'll keep growing."
