SFDRCISD UPDATE — Employee Reorganization Approved

Dr. Carlos H. Rios shares update on 'Possible Action Regarding Employee Reorganization'

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024 the SFDRCISD Board of Trustees met to finalize discussions about the proposed employee reorganization involving Fine Arts teachers, Librarians, and various administrative personnel across the district.

Upon further discussion, the board and SFDRCISD Superintendent, Dr. Carlos Rios, returned from Executive Session ready to take action to approve the employee reorganization plan.

“It is the recommendation of the administration as discussed in closed session, that the board of trustees approve the personnel reorganization in order to reduce the deficit,” Superintendent Dr. Carlos Rios announced.

The approved reorganization plan will include a reduced cabinet, reduced number of DRMS and ECHS assistant principals and deans of instruction and reassignment of those administrators, reducing the number of librarians and fine arts teachers at one campus and reassigning the rest to vacancies across the district, as well as other position reductions and reassignments.

The superintendent also assured that these reassignments and role reductions would be changed when additional funds are allocated to the district in the future. “It is further recommended that if funding becomes available through legislative action, that the librarians and fine arts teachers be transitioned back to library and fine arts positions if legislation makes funding available,” Dr. Rios continued.

The Board of Trustees heard the recommendations and took a vote, passing the reorganization plan 5-1-1.

Though the Board passed the motion, Board President Raymond P. Meza acknowledged the difficulty of coming to such a decision. “I just wanna say that this has been a very difficult decision for board members to make, this is something that came about from no additional funding from the last legislative session, discussions were very difficult,” Meza stated to those in attendance. He reiterated that there is a stipulation that if and when there is additional funding the librarians and fine arts teachers will be reinstated to their original positions.
