SFDR-CISD Celebrates School Board Appreciation Month!
Last night's San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District (SFDR-CISD) school board meeting wasn't just any board meeting. January marks School Board Appreciation Month, and the Del Rio community used the occasion to express their gratitude to the dedicated men and women who volunteer their time to guide the district's public education system.
The meeting began with speeches as representatives from each school took the floor. Instead of the usual agenda items, students, teachers, and staff offered short but powerful messages of thanks to the board members. Small gifts were exchanged, symbolizing the deep appreciation for their commitment to shaping a brighter future for Del Rio students.
Blended Academy took a particularly touching approach. A recent graduate stepped up, sharing their journey and the profound impact the Blended Academy program had on their life. Their story highlighted the power of second chances and the importance of the programs the school board supports.
Board President Raymond Meza, along with other members, were clearly moved by the graduate's words. "That's the icing on the cake for us as board members, is getting to see them graduate," Meza said. "It's just such an important event in their lives."
The meeting shone a light not only on the work of the school board but also on the deep connection between the board, schools, and the community they serve. It was a reminder that even amidst the day-to-day business of education, appreciation for those who make it possible can have a big impact.
