Rotary Club Hopes to Bring Pump Track to Del Rio
The Rotary Club, along with Del Rio Parks Foundation Trails Committee Lead, Jake Carsten, will be presenting their proposal for the pump track project to the city council at the January 14, 2025 council meeting, in the hopes of gaining site approval for the pump track which they plan to build adjacent to the Del Rio Skate Garden located at 1101 W. De la Rosa St. in San Felipe.
The potential pump track will be designed and constructed by Alliance Action Sports Experts, a full - service design and construction company specializing in action sports facilities and outdoor tourism development that has helped communities all over the world to build mountain bike trails, skateparks, snow parks, pump tracks, skills parks, and urban parks.
A pump track differs from a skate park in that it is “a continuous loop of berms and rollers that can be ridden without pedaling.” “Its shape enables fun and safe activities in areas that can be smaller than a basketball court. “Asphalt pump tracks are suitable for all sizes of bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, and other wheeled sports equipment.”
Per the presentation provided to us by Carsten and Rotary Club President-Elect, Cheryl Johnson Simmons, the pump track will be accessible for community members of all ages with kids’ tracks that are suitable for wheelchair users, scooters, bikes of all types, balance bikes, and skateboards.
There are currently three proposed concepts for the design of the track built in the space directly beside the new skate garden that will be presented to council:
Concept 1:
Concept 2:
Concept 3:
In terms of funding, the Rotary Club of Del Rio will be raising all funds necessary to design and build the track through the pursuit of various grants and fundraising events including the upcoming, 1st Annual Cornhole Tournament to be held at the Del Rio Civic Center and hosted by BTB Cornhole, on February 22, 2025, with all proceeds going towards the Rotary Park Pump Track.
What the Rotary Club hopes to receive from the City of Del Rio are a Council resolution approving the use of the space beside the Del Rio Skate Garden at Severiano Perez Parkway for the Pump Track, a Council Ordinance designating the rules for the pump track, and help navigating the permitting process.
The Rotary Club encourages those interested in supporting the pump track project to join them in their fundraising efforts and voice their support at the upcoming city council meeting on January 14, 2025. More updates to come after the presentation and council vote.
