Rotary Club Holds Ribbon Cutting for Pocket Park and It's Public Restrooms
This past Friday, May 3rd, 2024, the Rotary Club held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of Rotary Pocket Park (formerly Pocket Park) and it's new public restrooms. The restrooms are aimed at serving the downtown area. The event had many special guests including Miss Val Verde and our Mayor Al Arreola.
"We're very excited today because we are opening up our bathrooms downtown, we also adopted the pocket park, so now it's going to be called the Rotary Pocket Park and we have public restrooms we can use downtown from now on." Eddie Amezcua, former President of the Rotary Club shares. Miss Val Verde and Mayor Al Arreola were also in attendance. Mayor Arreola spoke at the event and said "It's a great day in Del Rio, cause today we're going to cut the ribbon of an adventure that the rotary did with us. It started a year ago and we're very proud to now have some, and everybody's been asking, some restrooms downtown. Cause we do have parades and we do have events and sometimes there is all this other things going on downtown and we don't have these types of facilities. I personally, and the council, want to thank the rotary for taking the plunge and building these state-of-the-art facilities."
Amezcua emphasized the Rotary Club's motto; 'service above self' and says that the park is beneficial in the sense that it enhances community engagement by providing a communal space for events, gatherings and fostering a sense of unity and cooperation amongst the residents. The park has seen many changes over the past few months and years including a beautiful mural all along the park. One thing is for sure, a lot of hard work and dedication has been put into this and We look forward to seeing Del Rioans enjoying Rotary Pocket Park and all it has to offer.
