IGNC Holds "Taste of France" Wine & Cheese Scholarship Fundraiser

On Friday, February 21, 2025, the Del Rio Chapter of the International Good Neighbor Council held the 5th Annual Wine & Cheese Scholarship Fundraiser where they featured Great French Wine donated by SoJo Cellar, live music by band Calle 4, music by Juan “The Saxon Man” Nanez, and a huge display of meats & cheeses.
"One of the important things about this event is that it's just a reintroduction every time we have it of how important IGNC (International Good Neighbor Council) is to the community... This is our fifth year doing this event, and it has raised a tremendous amount of money to give back to the community..." - Andrew Scarbo, President of the International Good Neighbor Council Del Rio Chapter.

The fundraiser aimed to raise money for scholarships by auctioning off multiple paintings and works of art done by local students.
"It's not just for the elite, it's for everybody... just to form a little community involvement, and getting involved and really participating in something like this for the future of our kids," - Al Arreola, Mayor of the City of Del Rio.

This event showcases the comradery within not just our community but with our neighbors on the other side of the border. It shows us that our communities are capable and willing to come together to aid the young minds of our future.
"The most important part of this event is the unification of the communities because it's not just all the entities within Del Rio on the Texas side of the border, but it's also from the [Mexico] side of the border... that with the fundraising, they go together... you can feel it when you're in the room it's really amazing," - Kerr Wardlaw, Precinct 1 County Commissioner.

"What I think is important about this event is two things, one is the community coming together... second, to raise money for our scholarships, for our students, for our kids, they are our future and that is priceless..." - Sergio Diaz, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Ultimately, the event was a success. Not only in raising money for scholarships but by bringing the community together. The evening was a celebration of unity, culture, generosity, and a shared purpose between neighbors. Proof that when communities come together, they can make a change that lasts.
