HIT AND RUN CALL LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

On January 4th, 2025 at approximately 6:30 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 600 block of East Adobe Street for a hit and run. The caller reported a red pick-up struck an unattended vehicle that was parked on the side of the road and left the scene of the accident. The caller followed the suspect’s vehicle and told police it was stationary at the 300 block of East Adobe Street.


Police arrived and made contact with the driver of the red pick-up truck identified as Ricardo Garcia Jr.; 24 yrs. of age. Garcia admitted to crashing the vehicle that was parked down the street. Garcia had glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person. Garcia performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests showing several clues of intoxication.


Garcia was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Duty on Striking an Unattended Vehicle. During a pat down, police located a THC vape pen in Garcia’s pant pocket later yielding positive results for THC concentrates. Garcia was also charged with Possession of Controlled Substance PG2 < 1G.


Officers read Garcia his Statutory Warning and requested a sample of his breath or blood. Garcia consented to provide a sample of his blood, the specimen was collected and submitted as evidence for further testing.


Ricardo Garcia Jr. was transported to the police station for processing and he was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility; pending magistration process.
