HIT AND RUN CALL LEADS TO ARREST
On May 19th, 2024 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1000 block of South Griner St. in reference to a hit and run.
The caller reported a dark-colored truck struck their fence and fled the scene without providing any information. The caller reported the truck drove away at a high rate of speed, colliding against a utility pole, and ultimately striking a wooden fence at the 1100 block of S. Main Street. The truck fled the area without making any attempt to stop.
While responding, police observed a black in color Dodge truck traveling at the 700 block of W. Garza Street with fresh damage along the rear left quarter panel consistent with the damage reported from the scene.
A traffic stop was conducted; contact was made with the driver identified as James Dean Deitrick Jr. 21 yrs. of age who showed signs of intoxication. Deitrick performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing resulting in clues of intoxication.
Deitrick was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated 1st and Duty on Striking Fixture/Hwy. Landscape > = $200. A breath sample resulted in a blood alcohol content (BAC) higher than 0.15 enhancing the original charge to Driving While Intoxicated BAC > = 0.15. Deitrick was processed at the Del Rio Police Department and later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
