FATALITY INVESTIGATION

On 06/06/2024 at 6:35 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department Emergency Communication Division received a 911 call from a citizen wishing to report a possible deceased person on the side of the road at the 1700 block of US Hwy. 277 South.

Police arrived and located a deceased male with multiple injuries. Criminal Investigation Division was requested at the scene for further investigation. The on-call Justice of the Peace was also requested at the scene for the mandatory inquest. Detectives concluded the victim; a 29-year-old Hispanic male was struck by a vehicle. Police located the victim’s next of kin for proper death notification.

Evidence at the scene assisted in the identification of a suspect’s vehicle. Police located the suspect’s vehicle at a local residence. The vehicle’s damage along with additional evidence corroborated the on-going investigation.

Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, who placed herself at the scene of the accident. During an interview with Police, the driver acknowledged her involvement in the collision.

The driver identified as Karen Aida Hernandez; 30 yrs. of age was arrested and charged with the offense of Collision Involving Personal Injury or Death. Hernandez was processed and later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
