DISTRICT ADDRESSING AIR CONDITIONING CONCERNS IN SCHOOLS
District Operation and Maintenance Teams are working diligently to address major issues that have surfaced recently at Del Rio High School and today at the San Felipe Memorial Middle School campus. The Del Rio High School campus is experiencing issues with the water towers and chillers, while a condenser issue has evolved in one of the buildings (Building E) at San Felipe Memorial Middle School.
The District and Maintenance Department use an outside contractor to perform system checks air conditioning units across the District each quarter. The last system inspection was performed last month and no issues were reported.
Earlier this month, the District became aware of issues at the Del Rio High School campus. Since then, the District has taken measures to work with two outside contractors to order parts needed to repair the water tower and chiller system at Del Rio High School. We are pleased to report that the High School Chiller was fixed today; however, the water tower is still under repair; and temperatures will continue to vary until it is completely repaired. Because one of these parts is manufactured outside the U.S., a local contractor is assisting in addressing short-term repairs to help reduce the temperature.
The District was advised today of a faulty condenser in one of the buildings at the San Felipe Memorial Middle School campus (Building E). The maintenance department has taken measures to expedite the replacement of the condenser and expect the repairs to occur within 24 hours.
