Del Rio Community Shows Their Support at Del Rio High School's Community Pep Rally
It was a scorching hot evening as the Del Rio community quickly filled Walter D. Levermann Stadium for the Del Rio High School Community Pep Rally introducing the Fall Sports. Del Rio High School Administration pushed the start time for the event to an hour later due to continued heat advisories. SFDR-CISD was well prepared and had free water stations throughout the stadium for guests needing to hydrate throughout the evening. Despite all this; athletic students had no trouble pulling in support from locals who were excited to cheer on the various athletic programs.
"Today we are at the Del Rio Community Pep Rally welcoming the entire community of Del Rio to all of our fall sports and they got to meet those players, enjoy performances from cheer, from dance co, from the band, and also from the Queen City Bells." shared Dina Sanchez, assistant coach for the Queen City Belles. Amanda Pedraza current Student Council President shared, "We're introducing all of the fall sports and we're very lucky that a lot of people turned out and we're so happy to have everyone here." Throughout the summer students in the DRHS athletic programs host summer camps for kids who then get to show the community what choreography they learned. The athletes and children would perform in between speeches that we're being given by students in programs like Golf, Band, Football, and Swim.
We also had the opportunity to catch up with Head Coach Fiacro Ramirez to see what the Rams are doing differently this year compared to last year. "The fact that we see our kids every day is also a bonus, so our kids have a lot more energy, they're going to be a lot more fresh. There's a lot of energy amongst our coaches as well, so they're going to have their legs underneath them"
"We had a packed stadium here at our first community pep rally. It was amazing to see so many parents, so many community members, staff, coaches, students come out and support our athletes, and the heat did not stop them. So that definitely shows their commitment, their love and support for our students." Cynthia Salas, Del Rio High School Principal says. "We have over 50 bells this year on our team who are so excited for our season and to represent Del Rio with pride," Ashley Johnson, Queen City Belles Director shares "We hope you guys come out and see our performances and support our girls. Have a great year, guys! Go Rams! Go Queens!" Students and staff both gleaming with confidence and excitement as they prepare for the fall season.
