Del Rio-Acuña Manufacturing and Industry Expo Showcases Economic Growth and Potential

The Del Rio-Acuña Manufacturing and Industry Expo, organized by the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce and the CBP, highlighted the vital role of the maquila industry and the economic ties between Del Rio and Ciudad Acuña.

The event drew attention to the important role of the maquila industry on both sides of the border. "We want everybody to know the importance of the maquila industry in Del Rio and Ciudad Acuña. Every day, 1,500 people cross the border to work, and vice-versa," Blanca Larson, Executive Director of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, noted.

Looking forward, Larson emphasized the importance of nearshoring and the anticipated growth in the next three to five years. "The border is going to grow, Del Rio is going to grow, and we need to be ready for it," she stated, highlighting the need for strategic planning and community readiness.

The expo featured more than twenty-five exhibitors, showcasing a range of industries including manufacturing, logistics, and education. The event also emphasized the significant economic activity generated by border trade. "There are about 8,000 trucks and 200,000 vehicles crossing our border each month, bringing in economy, revenue, and sales tax, which is crucial for Del Rio," Jorge Ramon, Economic Development Director & EDC Director for the City of Del Rio highlights.

The Del Rio-Acuña Manufacturing and Industry Expo was a success, showcasing the region's industrial capabilities and had lots of community engagement. Attendees were encouraged to learn about local manufacturing and explore the wide range of opportunities available.
