City & School District Hold Ribbon Cutting for New Community Park

School Board, City Council Members, and Students pose for a picture right before cutting the ribbon

On March 19, 2024 San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District (SFDR-CISD) and The City of Del Rio held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the brand-new Ceniza Hills Park. Many parents, staff, and elected representatives attended the event to celebrate the collaboration between the two entities. Throughout the ceremony, students could be heard enjoying the newly built park.

SFDR-CISD began discussing the construction of Ceniza Hills Elementary School in 2019, when voters approved a $19 million bond. While a playground set was built for the school, SFDR-CISD proposed an idea to the City Council on a collaborative effort; to have the city build a park that would be shared by the city and school district. During school hours the school district will use the park and after school hours the park will be available for use to the public, under standard park hours. While the city did fund the park, the school district will maintain the park for the foreseeable future. The park is located on the north side of town at 410 Pitaya Ln, Del Rio, TX 78840 right behind Ceniza Hills Elementary School.
