BROTHERS ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER
On September 17, 2024, at 3:11 p.m., a member of the Del Rio Police Department (DRPD) Criminal Investigation Division was contacted by a detective from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) requesting assistance in locating two brothers who had fled the state of Florida after being involved in a shooting incident. The suspects' vehicle GPS indicated it was stationary at 1401 Las Vacas Street, Del Rio, Texas.
DRPD immediately conducted an inquiry using the license plate reader database, which confirmed the vehicle had traveled from Florida to Del Rio. OCSO informed DRPD that the brothers had active arrest warrants for the offense of attempted murder with a weapon. Officers located the vehicle at 1401 Las Vacas Street; however, it was unoccupied at the time. Investigators discovered through local citizens and video surveillance that the suspects had been seen in the area on September 14, 2024.
Further investigation led DRPD Detectives to contact Tiffany Burrow, Operations Manager of the Val Verde Humanitarian Border Coalition, who conducted an inquiry and provided critical information. She advised that the suspects had boarded a bus and departed Del Rio, traveling first to San Antonio, Texas, and then on to Newark, New Jersey. This information was promptly relayed to the OCSO Detective.
On September 23, 2024, DRPD obtained a search warrant to examine the interior of the suspects’ vehicle, contributing to the ongoing investigation into the attempted murder charges. On October 3, 2024, DRPD was informed by the OCSO Detective that both suspects had been located and arrested at a migrant camp in Queens, New York. At the time of their arrest, the suspects were still armed with a handgun.
The suspects, identified as Cuban migrants Jaroscar Chavez Silva, 36 years old, and Roshiel Chavez Silva, 30 years old, were taken into custody and charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
