During a previous meeting, Fuentes informed council of the Border Organization’s plans to meet with other organizations in town to form a coalition addressing the water scarcity and severe droughts in the area.
“We had that meeting about two weeks ago and it went very, very well,” Fuentes began. “The organizations that have agreed to form the Southwest Water Coalition are, The Border Organization, The Del Rio Parks Foundation, The Devil’s River Conservancy, Rotary Club Del Rio, San Felipe Creek Coalition, Familias Unidas, Las Moras Springs Conservation, Casa de la Cultura, Eagle Pass Border Coalition, Texas Parks and Wildlife Nature Conservancy, Whitehead Memorial Museum, Lowe Estates Landowners Association, Laughlin Air Force Base Community Planner, Dave Galindo from Del Rio Bus, Karen Gleason from 830 Times, Michael Garcia from the City of Del Rio.”
She announced that the coalition will meet again on November 1, 2024 to come up with a water conservation plan among other solutions, and is hoping to bring in water experts from Austin. “We look forward to partnering up with the City of Del Rio and Val Verde County.”
