Border Bass Battle Competitors Come Out Victorious

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Special Projects Committee of the Chamber of Commerce presented the March Border Bass Battle competition, where competitors tested their rods in a fishing tournament for a chance to win cash and prizes. Registration for the event took place the night before, on March 8, at Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q.

This competition was an hourly event that took place from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and featured over $25,000 in cash and prizes. Each hour featured a first, second, and third winner, with the event spanning over eight hours.


Payouts for the event were as follows:


  • 1st place = 1,000

  • 2nd place = $600

  • 3rd = $300

  • Overall Big Bass = $1,000

  • Overall Big Smallmouth = $550

  • Overall Youth Division = $250

  • 50/50 = $765

"The first few hours of the event really showed that Lake Amistad is still an excellent fishery... We are looking forward to continuing to provide this event for the community of Lake Amistad and Del Rio, as well as the many out of town visitors that it attracts," said Kurt Dove, Tournament Director.


The event featured over 28 winners, with 24 hourly winners and three overall winners, plus the 50/50 winner.

With this event completed, Del Rio is looking forward to the second Border Bass Battle tournament that will be happening on November 1, 2025, with registration opening on October 31in person at Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q and online at drchamber.com
