Ambitious Hike and Bike Trail Project, Advances as City Council Approves!
Del Rio stands on the brink of a transformative journey into a greener, more connected future. A resolution, unanimously passed by the Del Rio City Council, starts the process of a promise of extensive hike and bike trails that would link Austin to Del Rio. Yet, this vision is as much about safeguarding our precious Edwards Aquifer and its breathtaking springs as it is about recreation. This is the vision of the Great Springs Project (GSP).
The Del Rio Parks Foundation shared this on their social media:
"Thank you to the Del Rio City Council for passing a resolution last night to pursue conversations with the Great Springs Project (GSP) which will connect Austin to Del Rio with hike and bike trails as well as protect the Edwards Aquifer and the amazing springs along the way!
Big shout out to Del Rio Parks Foundation Board Member, Jake Carsten, and BIKE DEL RIO Member, Bruno Lozano, for leading this initiative to bring Garry Merrit, CEO of GSP, to present the project. And finally, thank you Bike Del Rio, our local ride club, that has been showing us all the demand for trails locally and building a groundswell of support (and having fun doing it) for a greater trails vision for Del Rio!
If you’re interested in the project or specifics about the resolution, you can view the recording on the City channels or some snippets of video in the comments."
